House. C15 with C17, C18 and C19 alterations. Timber-framing, mostly
clad in sandstone rubble, with stone slate roof. Half H-plan. North-east
wall of three bays with C20 casement windows, door in right-hand bay and
C20 porch to left-hand bay. C20 addition to right. On the south-west side
are two projecting gabled wings. The recessed central hall has low eaves
and a window with segmental brick head. To its left is a doorway under a
C19 porch. To the right is a projecting chimney stack. The right-hand wing
projects further forwards. Against the ground floor is a lean-to addition.
Above, the gable is weatherboarded. The left-hand wing has a C20 bow window
on the ground floor and is tile-hung above. The left-hand (north-west) wall
of this wing is of three bays, with exposed framing in four rows of square
panels. Interior: door opens into cross-passage with timber-framed screen
wall between it and the hall. The north-west wing contained the service
rooms, probably originally a part of the hall range, and was later extended
to form a full wing. The south-east cross-wing has been extended towards
the south-west and contains an early C18 stair with turned balusters. Hall
has chamfered main beams, supporting inserted floor. Part of a cusped
central truss is said to be visible on the first floor.
