House. Mid- and late C17 with C18 and mid- to late C19 alterations.
Sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, C20 tiled roof. Main range
aligned south-west/north-east with service wing adjoining to north-
east end and extending to north-west forming an L-plan; projecting porch
to left of centre of main range to north-west front; two gable-end stacks
and rear lateral stack to main range, axial stack to service wing. Two
storeys, attics and cellars. North-west front: string course, one gable
to left with 2-light mullioned window, 5-light mullioned and transomed
window with decorative glazing below to first floor, pair of similar
4-light mullioned and transomed windows to ground floor, two similar
gables with 2-light mullioned windows to right and with similar 5-light
mullioned and transomed windows with decorative glazing to first floor;
two similar 4-light windows to ground floor placed together immediately
to the right of the projecting two-storey and attic porch with a 2-light
mullioned window in the gable and a 3-light mullioned and transomed window
with decorative glazing to the tirst floor. Chamfered semi-circular
headed doorway with moulded responds, battended door. South-west face of
service wing to left with two 2-light glazing bar casement windows and
3-light mullioned and transomed windows with glazing bar casements to
ground floor. The rear of the main range is altered but retains some 2-
light mullioned windows in attic gables with leaded casements. Interior
retains fine moulded ceiling beams with intersecting beams in former hall
and room to right. There are also some sections of contemporary plain
rectangular panelling remaining in the hall. The fireplace has a wooden
surround decorated with guilloche ornament but has been extensively
restored. The room to the left of the hall has a plastered ceiling with
geometrical designs. On the first floor is a possibly re-sited section
of beam with guilloche ornament and a shaped pendant. (RCHM, Vol I, p 155;
