Country house with adjoining stable and out-building. C17 core to house,
C17 stable, major alterations and rebuilding during C19 and early C20.
Coursed and squared sandstone rubble, ashlar dressings, hipped tiled and
slate roofs. Irregular plan house aligned north/south with out-buildings
extending to north and stables extending to north-east. Earlier core of
house retained in kitchen wing to north and south main section. House: Neo
Tudor style. Three storeys with cellars and attics. South front: two string
courses, three windows, 3-light to upper floor, 3-light stone mullioned and
transomed windows flank central 2-light window, canted bays with parapets flank
central 2-light window replacing former doorway. Stables to north and extending
to east of house with later inserted floor, with three C20 windows to south
front. Out-building to north flanked by later additions adjoining house with
raised verges and central gable; two storeys and attic, with two C17 wooden
framed windows and leaded lights visible to west side. The principal interest
of these buildings is the surviving C17 or early C18 fabric. (RCHM Vol II, p 92).
