Late C18 and early C19. Nos 3 to 8 on Strutt survey of 1792. Industrial
housing probably built by Strutts. A terrace of 3 storey coursed stone houses.
Roofing now modern pantiles. Brick stacks on ridge. Generally one window
each but No 2 of early C19 date has 3 windows and is back to back with No
65 Hopping Hill (qv). Sashes with late C19 glazing and stone lintels but
some modern glazing in some spaces. Coped stone garden walls to street boundary.
(The name may perpetuate the fact that the Duke of Devonshire owned land in
the vicinity; 1797 plan).
