Axmouth Bridge

Road bridge over River Axe. Built 1877. Designed by Philip Brannon. Constructed
of massed concrete it is the first in England to be built of this material. The
concrete is formed to imitate rustication. Three segmental arches with imitation
voussoirs and rusticated piers between, over cutwaters. Concrete parapet with
panels containing lattice work impressions.
There is a contemporary toll house to the west also built of concrete, qv.
