8.5.67 Gilletts Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Circa early C16 stone rubble house. Thatched roof with gabled and
hipped ends and eyebrow eaves. Two storeys. South front four window range. Large
modern metal frame casements with concrete lintels. Doorway off centre with plank
door to cross passage and modern conservatory on front. Central and end chimney
stacks. North elevation: heavy timber doorframe to cross passage with two centred
arch and plank door. Same old leaded pane casements. Circa C17 or C18 wing left
and right, forming half-H shaped plan, with half hipped roof.
Interior: Jointed cruck trusses with smoke-blackening. Massive timber bressummer to
fireplace at lower end. Adam style chimneypiece inserted into central fireplace.
Shouldered arch in timber frame screen at upper end. Stopped chamfer ceiling beams.
