Field Barn. Probably 1608 - date scratched on original door. Rubble, some
chert, some large field stones as foundation, corrugated iron roof replacing
thatch. A long narrow barn to half-hipped ends, low paired doors in flush
openings each side. East side has 3 ventilation slits in deep splayed openings
and one enlarged to square opening; at each gable a square opening, one to
south, part blocked. Pair plank doors each by side, to wood lintels; those
to west, higher side, ane C17 doors in part, with original strap hinges, and
with nailed vertical and horizontal double planking in part. East-side entry
has raking buttress added to right side; severe structural cracks to north
gable wall. Interior: 4 whole and 2 half bays, 5 pairs jointed crucks carried
down to about 1 metre from floor level; A-frame trusses with trenched purlin,
and a second purlin set low, almost at plate level, all early rafters, diagonal

An unusually well preserved building, lacking only the thatch roofing.
