Cottage, possibly incorporating remains of one of the medieval chapels-of-ease in
Broadclyst parish. C15 with later alterations and additions. Well coursed volcanic
trap rubble under gabled-end thatched roof. Left-hand end stack, and axial stack
towards the right of the building both with brick shafts; the axial stack stands
above a thick (now internal) wall which is marked externally by a vertical masonry
joint, perhaps marking the end of the 3-bay chapel of which 2 jointed crucks
survive.
Front: 2 window range, both upper windows of 2 lights in thatched gabled dormers
boarded, the right-hand casement C19, 8 panes per light. Two 2 and 3-light windows
to ground-floor under timber lintels, with door under C20 open porch. Rear:
catslide over continuous outshut.
Internally: 2-jointed crucks, the blades chamfered; wall plate and purlins look
later. The left-hand downstairs room contains one heavily chamfered beam.
