Lodge to Escot (q.v.). Dated 1869. Flemish bond red brick with bands of black
brick and Hamstone ashlar detail; brick stacks and chimneyshafts; red tile roof
including bands of scallop-shaped tiles and has original ridge tiles.
Plan: T-plan building facing east onto the drive to Escot (q.v.). This front block
contains the main entrance hall to right (south) and the main living room/parlour to
left and it has a projecting gable-end stack. A 1-room plan service block projects
at right angles to rear right of centre and it has a gable-end stack. 2 storeys.
Tudor Gothic style.
Exterior: 1-window front. The doorway is to right, a Hamstone Tudor arch with
hoodmould. The doorway is behind an internal porch; it contains an original plank
door with ornate strap hinges. To left is a canted bay window with stone Tudor arch
headed lights containing casements with glazing bars. Above is a stone 2-light
gabled half dormer. The main roof is gable-ended with cusped bargeboards. The
right (south) end has a 2-light window to each floor, the lower one with a
hoodmould. The rear block has a leanto porch along it and this contains a Tudor
arch doorway. In the left end stack of the front block there is a date plaque
inscribed 1K, 1869. This side of the rear block has a 2-light window each floor,
the lower one with a hoodmould, the upper one a gabled half dormer.
Interior not inspected.
This pretty Victorian lodge stands by the entrance to the landscaped Escot Park.
