6/128 Sexton's Cottage and Tumbleweed
-

GV II

2 adjoining cottages. Probably C18, Sexton's Cottage, to the left, may be slightly
earlier than Tumbleweed. Colourwashed, rendered stone rubble; thatched roof with a
plain ridge, hipped at ends; axial stack at junction between the cottages, rear
lateral stack to Sexton's Cottage.
Plan: Sexton's Cottage is single depth, now one room on plan but probably originally
divided into a heated room at the left and unheated service room to the right;
Tumbleweed (interior not inspected on survey (1988)) is probably 2 rooms wide.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2:2 window front, Sexton's to the left with a
central C20 porch and 2-light C20 timber casements with glazing bars. Tumbleweed has
a C20 lean-to porch to the right and 2-light C20 timber casements with glazing bars.
Interior: Sexton's has a large open fireplace to the lateral stack, formerly with a
bread oven; The fireplace has a chamfered lintel and one chamfered jamb.
Roof: Apex not inspected but timbers visible upstairs suggest that the trusses are
pegged A frames.
