Former farmhouse. Late medieval origins, circa mid C17 remodelling, very thorough
late C20 alterations. Whitewashed rendered cob and stone rubble ; thatched roof,
hipped at ends ; axial stack with brick shaft, right end stack with truncated shaft.
Plan: L plan, the main range formerly 3 room and through passage, the hall stack
backing on to the passage, lower end to the right. The partition between the hall
and inner room has been removed. Rear left wing possibly the C17 kitchen. The
house originated as a late medieval open hall of which one smoke-blackened truss
survives, carpentry detail on the ground floor indicates that the building was
floored with stacks inserted in the C17. Very thorough late C20 alterations include
rear right additions.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 5 window front, thatched porch on posts to the
front door to the passage at right of centre. C20 small pane timber casements and a
C20 thatched bow window with small pane timber casements to the left of the front
door.
Interior: The remains of a plank and muntin screen survive at the lower side of the
passage, the muntins chamfered and scroll-stopped on both sides, suggesting a parlour
function for the lower end room. The hall fireplace has a chamfered lintel with
pyramid stops and the hall preserves one chamfered step-stopped crossbeam.
Roof: 1 sooted truss survives, close to the axial stack : side-pegged jointed crucks,
formerly with a threaded ridge, the cranked collar mortised into the principals.
