7/577 Old Coombe House

House thought to have been built as an iron master's house and later a farmhouse.
Late C16 timber framed building with roof raised in the C18 when the building
was refronted. Ground floor brick is stretcher bond with tall 1st floor tile
hung. Old peg tiled roof with left side tall multiflue late C16 brick chimney-
stack. 2 storeys: 5 windows. Mainly C20 casements but C19 metal framed casement
to ground floor. Central C20 gabled brick porch with modern panelled door and
sidelights. Side elevation retains some exposed box framing to ground floor.
Interior has 2 large sandstone inglenook fireplaces with moulded wooden bressummers
and brick backs with alcoves, exposed frame with curved tension braces and large
chamfered spine beam. Plank doors and section of splat balustrading above stair-
case.
