House. C16 and C17. Timber-framed, with exposed timbers on the
2 upper storeys of the front and a rendered gable. Plaintiled
roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. The centre of the 1st storey
projects forward in a square C17 bay, supported on ornate
console brackets, and carried up to roof level in a large
gabled dormer. Originally this had a high window across the
front with 2 small side lights, but now has an Edwardian
small-paned cross window. At attic level, the blocked original
window has been replaced by a smaller 2-light small-paned
casement. On the ground storey, one small-paned cross window
and one small-paned single light window with transom. 6-panel
door with the top 4 panels glazed. A large red brick
chimney-stack is shared with No.58 (qv), adjoining on south. A
small gabled rear wing.
INTERIOR: front range in 2 bays with a double ogee and
roll-moulding to the joists and a similar but more complex
moulding to the main cross beams. One bay is interrupted by
the chimney-stack, which appears inserted. The fireplace has
stone jambs with re-used Norman nook shafts and a plain timber
lintel. A plain clasped purlin roof in 2 bays. The rear wing
has been raised.
