Farmhouse. Late medieval with C19 additions at rear. Stone and cob, rendered and
painted at front; side-walls rebuilt C19 or C20 in stone, with brick dressings on
right-hand side. Slated roof, hipped at right-hand end. 2 storeys. 3-room and
through-passage plan ground storey probably with unheated inner room, hall and
kitchen by C17. 4 -window front; all windows C19 wood casements, 2 lights, 8
panes per light, 6 panes per light at first floor, except later ground-storey
window to right. Doorway, off-centre to right has 6-panel door, the four lower
panels flush, the 2 upper panels glazed; porch with solid wall to right has slated
pent roof. To left of doorway a projecting lateral chimney-stack was rendered
(serving the hall) and tapered top; short added shaft. At base of stack to right
a small rectangular projection, probably an oven. Interior: hall has internal
jetty at lower end, which must formerly have projected into an open hall; jetty now
plastered in, but owner has seen joists beneath. Heavily moulded main ceiling-beam
probably early C16, but fits badly and may have been brought from elsewhere.
Passage now has window at rear, but owner has found decayed remnants of doorway in
the wall. Kitchen wholly altered, but owner says large fireplace and oven in rear
wall, now plastered in. Roof rebuilt late C19 or early C20.
