Farmhouse. Early C19; datestone in back wall inscribed TM 1826. Rubble stone
with ashlar dressings of local 'marble'. Roofed in two parallel spans, both slated
and with stone-coped gables. Brick chimney-stack in each gable. Double-depth plan
with front and back stairs in centre and two rooms at either side; left-hand rear
room in ground storey formerly the dairy, right-hand rear room the kitchen.
Original lean-to storehouse on right-hand side. Two storeys, with single-storey
lean-to symmetrical front three widely-spaced windows wide. Windows have flat
heads; voussoirs and jambs of 'marble'. All have eight-pane barred timber sashes
without horns, that in centre 6 panes per sash. Central doorway with slightly
projecting, rendered, surround; round-headed, mould architrave decorated with
vermiculated blocks. Six-panelled door with two lowest panels flush, deeply
recessed with panelled reveals. At each side a decorative wing wall with swept
parapet and containing a blind window. Right-hand wall masks the original lean-to.
In left-hand gable wall, in ground storey, a re-used C15 or early C16 wood window
of two chamfered lights with four-centred heads. Interior: Wood staircase with
this square-section balusters. Two simple early C19 marble chimneypieces. Some of
the window-shutters at the back have ovolo-moulded panels. A farmhouse of some
architectural pretensions and of a quality rare in this locality.
