SU 60 NE SOUTHWICK & WIDLEY
14/3 Broomfield House
II
House. Early and late C19. Main walls of stucco, with coping to parapet, simple
cornice moulding and 1st floor band, pilasters: other walls of painted brickwork.
Hipped slate roof. The south front was once symmetrical, with a slightly-
projecting centrepiece and end pilasters, and now with a western bay added in
the same style; two storeys and semi-basement, 1:1.2.1 windows. Sashes. A
similar north elevation is masked at the east side by a projecting (later) wing,
containing an unusual doorway; arch head with fanlight flanked by narrow arched
windows, below a hoodmould, and C20 panelled door. Minor extensions on the east
and west ends mask the original block: a wall extends at the west end to join a
small service cottage, with painted brick walls and hipped tile roof.
