House. Late C18 double pile house built of older materials, altered and added
to C19 and C20. Reused dressed stone and brick with blue headers, old plain
tile roof. C18 house, 5 bay by 4 bay, built on 3 sides of reused dressed stone
from Easton Manor House demolished in the 1780s, the 4th side, originally the
rear, being of brick. To one end C19 and C20 service range. Present entrance
front facing church, brick, of 2 storeys and attic on cellar, on dressed stone
plinth, 5 bay. 2-light casements near each end in basement. In left bay
large C18 16-pane sash in stucco architrave, right bay has C19 3-light sash.
Centre right bay has original C18 8-panel door. Now top-glazed moved from
other side of house, in late C19 full height gabled porch, glazed on ground floor,
tile-hung above, and outshot to left to form open porch over entrance. 1st
floor string course. 2 irregular C19 2-light casements to left, and 3-light
oriel right, with above C19 mansard gable, but to left original modillioned
brick cornice. Garden, originally entrance, front, stone with 2 C19 canted
bays, of Bath stone to left and timber french windows to right, 1st floor
string and 5 C18 12-pane sashes. Boxed eaves to hipped roof with 2 hipped
dormers with 2-light casements. Symmetrical brick stacks to both piles.
Inside front left room on both floors has well carved early C18 pine panelling
said to come from the manor house which was once dower house to Avington House
(qv) and panelling is very similar to some in Avington.
