Small country house, now 3 residences. Early C18 house altered and enlarged
late C18 and C19, divided c1943. Brick with some stone dressings, lead and
old plain tile roofs. 2 storey and attic on cellar, double pile early C19
house with 3 bays added to N end set back on entrance front, and 3 full height
round bays added to garden front and an octagonal bay put on N end in late
C18, then 3 low 2 storey service bays added to N and entrance front remodelled
C19. Entrance front has to oldest part central C19 tall round-headed door
with thin windows either side between pilasters supporting pediment, with 3
C19 narrow 8-pane sashes. Other windows early C18 altered 8-pane sashes, all
windows having segmental rubbed brick heads and stone sills. Moulded brick
cornice with stone coping and above panelled attic parapet has bulls-eye
openings in front of attic windows. To N added 2 storey bays refenestrated
C19 with 3 narrow bays set back, then projecting wide bay with venetian oriel
window, and 5 narrow bays with projecting forward from 2 N bays single storey
addition with brick arch in front of it linking to C19 stable. Garden front
has 8-bay, 2-storey and attic main part of 3 full height rounded bays on
plinth with openings with gauged brick arches to light cellars. Bays have
3 12-pane original or 8-pane altered sashes on each floor some with blind
boxes. Bays in between have French windows on ground floor and sash above.
All openings have rubbed brick arches and stone sills. Moulded cornice with
stone copings carried round bays. Panelled parapet and stone copings. On
top of this over centre bay rendered parapet with urns. End stacks to
original building. Inside original part behind door C19 hall incorporating
C18 panelled room with bolection mouldings, fireplace and niches. C19 copy
of c1700 staircase with C18 dado panelling. C19 fluted pilasters between
hall and stairs and on 1st floor many rooms panelled in either C18 or Cl9.
