8/25 Church of St Peter

GV II

Parish church. 1866 by John Colson. Rubble flint with stone dressings, roof
old plain and fishscale tiles and unusual ridge tiles, cedar shingles to
spire. Chancel with N vestry, N and S transepts, nave. Windows early decorated
style. SW tower with S porch in bottom stage, decorated timber top stage with
wide broach spire with oversailing eaves. Inside plain with plastered walls.
Chancel has painted boarded roof. Chancel arch has corbelled granite shafts
with foliated capitals, below springing. Stone pulpit on short granite columns.
Font Purbeck Marble in C12 style. On nave wall C18 arms board. In porch small
C18 marble monuments and ancient holy water stone.
