Small country house now 2 dwellings.1871-4 by G Devey and later for Lady Surtees.
Brick, some diaperwork with stone dressings, plastered or tilehung parts to 1st
floor, ½-timbered gables, old plain tile roof, moulded brick stacks. Irregular
building in Domestic Revival style, 2 storey and attic, 2 rooms deep, 4 bays with
further lower service buildings to one end. Garden front has main part to LH of
2 wide gabled bays each side of smaller bay, the LH 2 of these are one dwelling
and a wall comes forward from RH side of them. To RH further bay and beyond
lower roofed bay. Recessed in bay between gables is stone doorway with side light,
both with fanlight over. To LH gabled bay,rectangular bay with stone 5-light
transomed window, Jettied 1st floor over this and doorway.3 or 5-light casement
on 1st floor, in LH gable and in gabled dormer over other bay. Other gabled bay
has 2 storey canted bay with stone ground floor window and 1st floor string, and-
½-timbered gable on brackets. Next bay has diaper work and casement under eaves.
RH lower bay has huge end stack and projecting breadoven.
