T shaped timber framed building possibly originally hall (now farmhouse) and cross
wing (now farm cottage).
Crabthorn Farm Cottage Main facade faces north. Timber framed with red brick
herringbone infill. Half hipped tiled roof. 2 storeys. 3 windows late C18/early
C19 casements but some C17/early C18 leaded glazing remains. Interior has exposed
timber framing, beams with stop chamfers of C17 and numbered joists. Early form
of central heating with hot air duct leading from top of former bread oven to vent
in bedroom wall.
Crabthorn Farmhouse Main facade faces east. Stone rubble and red brick. Half
hipped tiled roof. 2 storeys. 3 windows, casements except for modern window above
door. Centre door in timber framed porch with hipped roof. C17 centre cruciform
chimney stack south wall, tile hung. Roof down to single storey height on rear,
or west facade. Interior has fine exposed timbers, beams with C17 stop chamfers
early C17 panelling.
Crabthorm Farm Cottage and Crabthorn Farmhouse form a group with No 80 (Great Crabthorn)]
Old Street and with the former granary at Crabthorn Farmhouse - the granary is
a building of local interest.
