GV II

Two cottages now house. C16, C17, and late C19. Mixed wall materials, and a
tile roof. A timber-framed structure, originally a 2 roomed house with a
central smoke bay, altered in the early C17 by the insertion of a chimney in
the smoke bay, adding a first floor, and extending by another bay at the west
side, with minor C19 rear additions. Front (south) of 2 storeys, 4 windows.
Roof hipped at the west end, with a gablet, gabled at the east. Exposed frame-
work, covered in the upper part of the front and west walls with tile hanging
with decorative scalloped bands, with brick infill, above a deep plinth of rubble
ironstone. Casements. Boarded door in an architrave. Inside, there are massive
hearths, an oven (once 2) an old dog-leg staircase, old doors, and fragments of
painting on a beam.
