Early C19 Gothick Cottage Ornee, originally called Blackbrook. Roughcast facade.
Thatched roof with wide overhang scalloped away to form eyebrows over 1st floor
windows, which are supported on each side by columns in the form of rough tree
trunks. 2 storeys. 6 windows. The south front has 3 curved projections on both
floors, 2 containing large tripartite windows (Venetian 1st floor windows, one
with pointed centre light) ground floor has 1 with 3 round arched lights and 1
with 3 pointed lights. Remining windows sashes. North facade has pointed casements
with Gothick glazing, ground floor windows similar to church windows with tracery.
Large ground floor room added on the north side and joined to the house by a corridor
and porch. Residence of the Bishop of Portsmouth.
Bishopwood, its gate piers and Blackbrook Lodge form a group.
