4/13 Michaelmas House
GV II
House built as the Vicarage 1860, assumed to be by William White, the
architect of the adjoining church. Brick and tile. A design in the
High Victorian manner, with a balance of asymmetrical features-: the front
(east) of 2 storeys has a tapered attached stack at the south side and a tall
gabled slight projection (1 window above triple lights) at the north, with a
doorway between, another upper window and coupled windows to the ground floor
at the north side. Walls of English bond have flush blue brick bands, at the
top and middle coupled bands with a pattern of headers between, cambered
arches with blue and red voussoirs, tiled cills. Casements. The doorway
has narrow side windows, a ½-glazed door and a wide tiled canopy on brackets.
The other elevations are treated with the same balance of mixed elements;
large windows (a 2-storeyed splayed bay) occupying the south elevation. Gables
are tile-hung.
