SU 24 SE GRATELEY GRATELEY

Rose Cottage

Now a pair-of houses, forming an L-shape. C17, early C19, with C20 restoration.
Timber frame and brick, with a tile roof. The old part (Jasmine) is a timber-
framed building at right angles to the roadway, of 1 storey and attic, irregular
fenestration. Exposed frame with painted brick infill, the gable to the roadway
is a brick wall (of the early C19) planted on the end of the frame, having
horizontal flint panels. Casements. ½-glazed door. Rose Cottage has painted,
brickwork, with a west elevation of 2 storeys 2 windows and a front (south) of
1 storey and attic, 2 windows. Casements. ½-glazed door. The prominent roof,
with varied hips, gables and dormers, was formerly thatched, but this was replaced
by tiling in the late C20.
