Wind engine and former mill house. C1891 engine made by John Wallis
Titt. Wind-engine of iron with steel tower; mill house of red brick
in English bond with half-hipped plain tile roof. Wind engine has
tapering, hexagonal,cross-braced tower approx 6 metres (20 feet
tall);brackets from former platform removed; sail frame with fantail
(sails removed); some remaining sheyting and cogged machinery. The
mill house has stepped eaves; gable end next to engine has blocked
low-level opening (through which are shaft from engine) and board door
below header brick arch; bricked-up opening in opposite gable;
inserted doorway at eaves on north side.
The sails were removed and put into storage in the 1960s; parts of the
machinery and of tower structure are lying on the ground beside it.
This wind-engine was of John Wallis Titt's 'Simplex' (approx 125
metres) engine design. It was used to pump up water from a 410 foot
well, and to grind corn.
