Andwell Mill
II
C17, late C18, circa 1900. Old core, with C18 extensions, all much modernised at the
last phase. Massive mill block has a north gable which has an exposed timber frame,
bricknogged, in its upper part and at the east side, the other part (west side) of the
mill having been modernised, producing a tall 2-storeyed block with a one-storey and
attic west wing. To the east is attached a lower 2-storeyed house (C18) of normal
scale, all now integrated to form one dwelling. Tile roofing, hipped apart from the
north gable, with hipped dormers at the west wing; brick dentil eaves to the east
wing. Red brickwork in Flemish bond, with blue headers on the west side, cambered
ground-floor openings. Modern casements and modern doorway, flanked by windows under a
large canopy.
