II

Rebuilt 1865, by J Colson. A Gothic Revival church on a medieval site, with the re-use
of some older features of the C13, C14, C15. Chancel with small north vestry, nave
with north aisle, south porch and timber-framed bell turret. Old tile roofing,
shingled spire and battered sides to the bell turret, 2 gablets to the north aisle.
Flint walling with stone dressings to openings, with stepped buttresses. One lancet to
the chancel, coupled lancets below a circular light in the west gable, a 3-light
traceried east window;elsewhere coupled lights. Within, the chancel is revealed as of
circa 1300 original form with 2 old window reveals, and a fine C14 piscina: 2 arches of
the nave arcade use the old material, with 2 drum columns with cushion caps and moulded
bases. The octagonal f ont (from Popham) has a C15 bowl on a later base. A massive
Queen Post truss, arch-braced, supports the belfry.
