Description

SU 66 SW MORTIMER WEST WEST END ROAD
1/6
West End Farmhouse
GV
II

C17, C18, C19. Two storeys. The oldest part is a 2-bay timber frame, with a large
chimney attached to the former gable; this is now enclosed by the C18 unit, and the
angle is filled by a still later unit. The C18 symmetrical front (north) of 3 windows
has a 1/2-hipped tile roof, red brick walling (the upper of Flemish and lower of English
bond) cambered ground-floor openings, plinth. Casements. Six-panelled door within a
solid frame (also enclosing a 4-pane fanlight) and open timber-framed Victorian gabled
porch. The brick-nogged frame is exposed in a small part, but has been covered up at
the rear steep gable by roughcast (hiding a date mark 1766). The interior has many
levels of the upper floor, and some exposure of the frame.
