Crockfords Farmhouse

C17, late C19. Two-storeyed timber-framed structure of 2 bays, with attached western
unit (C19) at right-angles at the west end. Externally of the later period except for
small section of timber-framed walling to the north side outshot. Steep red tile,
roof, gable on the west side, shafted stack, gabled dormer on the front with cill at
eaves level. Red brick walling in English bond, cambered openings to ground-floor and
upper windows in gables, thin flush blue brick band. Casements. Plain brick porch
with a tile roof. Inside, the heavy framework (brick-nogged) in exposed in a cross
wall, with arch-braced cambered tie beam and arch bracing to (some) purlins; the
outshot is mainly timber-framed. Massive fireplace with exposed timber bressumer, now
mostly filled in.
