C18, mid Cl-9. Large mansion of classical form, its earlier origin masked
by C19 restoration. Symmetrical design; central block of 3 storeys, with
wings of 2 storeys and attic. West front of 2: 2.1.1: 2 windows. Hipped
slate roofing, with mansard above side wings. Red brick walls in Flemish
bond with stone (and much cement replacement) dressings. Modillion cornice
below blocking course parapet, thin plain pilasters merging with 1st floor
band and plinth, plain architraves with flat band cornice, centre has
rusticated quoins and pierced balustrade and triple window above entrance
door (with flanking windows). Sashes; casements to 2nd floor (including
dormers with segmental heads in the mansard). Interior shows rich Victorian
restoration, in the classical manner.
