SO 83 NE TWYNING SHUTHONGER

1/166 Shuthonger House


GV II


Large detached house. Early-mid C19. Brick with rendered facade,
right-hand return painted brick. Slate roof with rendered brick
stacks. Rectangular plan with later extension to right. Two-
storey, 5-windowed facade. Small 12-pane sashes with earred
architraves to the first floor. Larger 2-pane sashes (formerly
probably 12-pane) within moulded architraves to the ground floor.
C19 six-panel front door with fanlight at the top. Seven stone
steps. Engaged simplified Doric columns either side of doorway
with Roman Doric frieze. Band between ground and first floors.
Pilasters with sunken panels offset from the corners. Deep parapet
with single sunken panel and moulded cornice. Twelve and 16-pane
sashes to the right-hand return. Three hipped roofs. This
building occupies a particularly prominent position on a corner of
a main road.
