Formerly 3 cottages, now house. Early C18, altered and enlarged
1916 (datestone) for S. Russell. Original house coursed, squared
stone, later work to right squared stone brought to courses; stone
slate roofs. Three-window, 2 1/2-storey, one-room deep block; 3-
storey tower, low wing at right angles and part leanto added to
rear, 2-window, 1 1/2 storey wing on right, with further single-storey
service wings beyond. Front to road: boarded door up one semi-
circular stone step, chamfered arris, stone lintel. To left 2-
light mullioned window with leaded lights, 3-light similar to
right. Above three 2-light similar windows, whole offset slightly
to left, lead rain-water pipe and ornamental head left end. Above
3 hipped dormers, each with 2-light wooden casements and stone-
slated cheeks. Parapet gables with ashlar ridge chimneys, moulded
caps. On right extension, flush with front, 3-light and 2-light
mullioned windows; lead pipe to ornamental lead tank, dated 1776.
Above 2 dormers as main house, large, square chimney above on
ridge, with moulded cap: parapet gable on right with cross gablet
apex. Set back on right single-storey wing, 3-light mullioned
window on left, ashlar chimney rising from gable, roof hipped at
right end. S. Russell father of Gordon Russell, the furniture
designer. Occupies prominent position at rear with tower: low
wings form an important part of rear composition.
