4/23 The Elms
II
Farmhouse. Probably mid-late C17 with a late C18 facade and later
extensions to the rear. Roughly squared and dressed painted
limestone with an ashlar facade; red tile roof; early brick stack
and two C19 engineering brick stacks. Two storeys. Three-windowed
facade with parapet. Canted 2-storey bay windows slit by 4-pane
sashes; 3-light casements with glazing bars to the central bay,
both with keystones; the casement lighting the ground floor is
extended down below the level of the sill; 6-panelled door with
the 4 upper panels glazed to the left with fluted pilasters and
frieze; triangular pediment. Projecting stack to the left gable
end with two diagonally set shafts; two axial stacks. Flat coping
at the right gable end. Interior not accessible.
