Lodge at entrance to drive to Middle Stanley farm. Dated and
initialled 'R.H.P. (Reginald Hart Prance) 1904', on the west-facing
gable end, probably by Ernest Newton (q.v. the White House,
Teddington C.P.). Random squared and dressed limestone; then
stone slate roof; coursed squared and dressed limestone stacks.
Rectangular plan incorporating cross range; wash-house linked via
gate to main body. 1½ storeys. Entrance front: gable with 5-
light stone-mullioned bow window. Inscription 'ORA * ET * LABORA'
(pray and work) in large finely executed lettering around the upper
part of the bow window; 3-light stone-mullioned window above;
Prance family crest with lion and fleur de lys above; plank door
to left of gable; single and 2-light casement, stone-mullioned
casement to the left 2-light dormer with leaded flat roof. North-
front facing road with two 3-light stone-mullioned casements.
West-facing gable end with 2-light stone-mullioned casement at
first floor level; finely carved datestone above. Gate with
curving upper rail links house to wash-house. Singe-light casement
to gable end of wash house. All windows with leaded panes. Axial
and off-the-ridge stacks. Flat coping to gable ends which curves
at the apex and eaves. Hipped roof to wash house. The general
craftsmanship involved in building this house and in the roof in
particular is of an especially high standard. Engraving of Lodge
on brass monument in the Chapel at Stanley Pontlarge (q.v.).
