Large house in row, part set back from street frontage. C17, but some replace-
ment windows in Cl9 or C20. Dressed squared and coursed limestone, stone rubble,
concrete tile roof. A plan of accretion, with a two-gabled unit facing into the
garden and in part set back from the street, and a second block running with
street frontage; the fall in the ground level gives a three floor back to a two
floor front. To street, left half is in two storeys, lower ground floor, and
attic, with a plain run of wall to left, then 2 windows: at ground floor 2 and
3-light, under a continuous string which also returns, right end; at first floor
2 and 3-light. Set back section, down from street level, is 1-3 floors and
cellar, with two 2-light casements flanking a Tudor headed door, all to a drip
raised over the door which is of wide planks; at first floor a 2 light casement
under stopped hood is flanked by single lights each side, and top floor has
2-light casement with stopped hood. Windows generally with leading. Cellar
opening to left. Across the small courtyard at street front are spear-head
railings, but no gate. Garden elevation is three storeys and attic with two
principal gables; at ground level two 4-light, first floor 4 and 3-light and
attics 2-light casements, all chamfer mullion with leading and hoods. Central
door. Gable stack to right and an eaves stack on right return of right-hand
gable. A substantial house overlooking the valley with discreet frontage to the
street.
