4.7.60 steps and overthrow

GV II

Large house, at end of row. C16, but substantial rebuilding of early C19.
Squared and coursed limestone with slight plinth, Welsh slate mansard roof
with coped gables and rebuilt gable stacks. Two storeys, basement, and
attic, 3-windowed, segmental-headed dormers with sashes, 16-pane sashes
ground and first floor, all with glazing bars, central 6-panel door under
fanlight with margin bars, moulded arch surround and pediment on consoles
approached by 5 steps through wrought iron overthrow with central lantern
on supporters with Anthonian finials set to square weathered limestone bases.
Left: steps down to former cellar entrance. Interior has C19 doors and
shutters, and at basement level the former back wall includes C16 two-arched
opening in flat surround, impost caps and wave-mould chamfer with keystones,
the left-hand one with a lion's head; also a similar opening, on return
wall, left, formerly giving to adjacent property.
