Cave with 'spring', rockwork above and adjoining island in lake.
Mid C19 by Pulham for T. Gambier-Parry. Pulhamite, a form of
artificial stone. Large, irregular pile of 'boulders', rockwork
surround to entry to cave, from which emerges a stream, fed by lake
higher up in garden. Path at lake level, to left, winds round up a
pile of 'rocks' to platform over, with behind a further wall of
'rocks' to enclose space above cave. In front small flat area on
edge of lake, narrow space of water, irregular, romantic pile of
'rocks' in lake, with plants. Forms important part of garden
designed by Pulham, garden considered one of best and largest
surviving examples of his work.
