II
Detached farmhouse. Late C16; late C17 south cross wing. Random
rubble limestone; ashlar chimneys; stone slate and concrete plain
tile roofs. Two-storey with attic, L-plan. East side: parapet
gable end of cross wing projects forward to left with single-window
fenestration, 3-light to upper floor, 2-light to attic, both
chamfered mullioned casements withhoodmoulds; cross roll saddle
to gable. Earlier wing to right has C19 outbuilding and pentice
addition, both under large catslide to main roof; part open-
fronted supported on 2 tapering monolithic stone posts. Doorway
with chamfered opening, remains of decorative moulding stops,
hoodmould and plank door is in section of wall projecting forward
from main wall, possibly formerly gabled porch dismantled upon C19
alteration; 2-light recessed cavetto mullioned casement with
hoodmould to right of doorway. North end: parapet gabled with
chimney having moulded cap. Four single-light casements, 3
recessed cavetto moulded with hoodmoulds. West side: originally
2-window fenestration to earlier wing, one obscured by later lean-
to addition. Three-light ground floor and two 2-light upper floor
casements, all recessed cavetto mullioned with hoodmoulds. Parapet
gable end of cross-wing to right with gable-mounted chimney having
moulded cap. Two apparently C13 lancets reset at attic level, one
2-light. South side: front of cross-wing with 2 and 3-light
chamfered mullioned casements, 2 with hoodmoulds to ground floor.
Off-centre lobby-entry doorway with deep stone lintel and plank
door.
Interior: beams with stepped chamfer stops in late C16 part of
house. Recorded from 1573.
