Detached house and high retaining wall. Early-mid C17; altered
mid-late C18. Random and coursed rubble limestone; ashlar
chimneys; stone slate roof. Three-storey with single-storey rear
wing. North west front: earliest part to right, originally with 2
full gables, infilled in C18 addition of upper storey. Three-
window fenestration to earliest part, 3-light recessed chamfered
mullioned casements to ground and middle floors, central upper
floor 2-light, all below continuous dripmoulds. Two-light with
hoodmould in each former gable with larger 2-light set in between.
Central doorway with C20 door and gabled porch addition. Addition
to left also formerly with full gable, single 3-light to each
floor, ground floor window altered to doorway. Three ridge-mounted
chimneys with moulded tops. Gable ends each have 2 oval windows
and indications of original roof-line. Rear: fenestration and
additional storey as to front, several mullioned windows replaced
in C20. Small single-storey service wing. High retaining wall
adjoins building at north east end, 2 large raking buttresses
supporting high-level roadway.
Interior: small Jacobean open-well staircase with turned
balusters. Moulded fireplaces at south-west end. One very large
fireplace with pointed stone lintel has shell hddd niche adjacent.
