Former rectory built 1826 for Rev J.L. Bythesea, then house.
Extended c1845 by William Croome, service accommodation and some
internal alterations c1899 (architect F.W. Waller). Incised
stucco; slate roof with ashlar stacks. Basically rectangular main
body, mid C19 extension and 'T'-shaped conservatory to the left,
later C19 service accommodation at the rear extends away to the
left. Adjoining stableblock now demolished. Flat-chamfered
quoins. Two-storey, 1:1:2-windowed facade, with the gable of the
mid C19 extension projecting forwards slightly to the left. Three
tripartite sashes also with plain architraves and sills to the
ground floor; 12-pane sashes with similar architraves and sills to
the first floor. Projecting porch to the right of the gable with
large fixed casements with glazing bars in the east and west-facing
walls. Cl9 conservatory with pointed finials to the left of the
projecting gable. The service wing running away to the left has 6
and 8-pane sashes to its north front. Hipped roofs with wide eaves
and lateral stacks.
Interior; elaborate Gothick fretwork panels were inserted inside
the reeded architraves of the doorways (as shown in the interior
photographs in the N.M.R) during the mid Cl9 alterations but have
now been removed. Interior not accessible.
