on former Akeman Street

Formerly farmhouse enlarged to form 2 cottages on Roman road
formerly known as Akeman Street. Early C18, enlarged in C19.
Coursed rubble stone with quoins, slate roof, tall stone end stack
to right and ridge stack towards left, originally an end stack.
Single main range with rear extension and lean-to, 2 storeys and
attic. Originally five evenly spaced bays with 2-light stone
mullion and transoms with voussoir heads, with 4 on ground floor
and central door. Increased by one bay to left with similar
window on first and ground floor and additional door, both doors
now with gabled porches of C19. Two gabled dormers, to left and
centre. Blind 2-light stone mullion and transom to each floor on
right hand return. Left hand return has C19 three-light stone
mullion to each floor. Roof beam ends show in wall on either side
of originally central bay of main section.
