II
Stables. Late C19 with minor C20 alterations. Probably by Sir
Ernest George (q.v. stables, Batsford Village) for Lord Redesdale.
Rock-faced limestone with ashlar dressings to openings, thin
limestone slate and concrete tile roof, wooden lantern with wood
shingle roof and rock-faced stone chimney. 'H'-shaped plan with
additional gable extending back rear centre. Symmetrical facade,
single storey. Doorless C20 double openings in right and left gable
ends, string linking moulded Kneelers, relieving arch and
ventilation slit above string. 3 stable doors between projecting
gables within chamfered surrounds with moulded brackets in the
upper corners, decorative timbered gable over central door,
matching gables over stone-mullioned cross windows right and left
of central door. Saddleback gable coping to forward facing gables.
Central lantern with pierced quatrefoil decoration and curved
pyramidal roof. Oval chimney from gable end rear centre.
Interior: brick-lined walls with tiles to waist height. Queen
strut roof, braced tie.
