south of south nave wall in church-
yard of St. Mary the Virgin

Group of 7 chest tombs. Late C18 to mid C19. All limestone with
moulded plinth and capping on base. Recessed or fielded
rectangular panels to ends and sides, all with flanking fluted
strips to sides. Some side panels have elaborately carved
cartouches for inscriptions, most of which are legible. Two-step
tent tops with curved edges and flattened tops. The only
exception to the group description is tomb furthest to south-west,
Daniel Iles, died 1824, which has no visible base, a fluted frieze
and 3-step tent top with uppermost step with straight edges.

Row 1: Hannah Arkell died 1818, Daniel Iles died 1824.
Row 2: Dorothy Arkell died 1780, John Arkell died 1797, Thomas
Arkell died 1839.
Row 3: William Iles died 1850, William Arkell died 1831.
