Village Farm House (No 78)

Formerly one large farmhouse, divided into 2 houses. Village Farm
Cottage probably late C17/early C18, Village Farm House added to
south east in late C18/early C19. Rubble stone, stone slate roof,
truncated stone ridge stack to Village Farm Cottage, stone end
stacks and one front lateral stack to Village Farm House. 'L'-
plan, each house forming one arm of L. Village Farm Cottage of
single storey and attic with 2 widely spaced gables each with 3-
light leaded wooden casement with timber lintel. Similar large
unleaded casements below, and one further to left. Probably
originally a central door with lobby entry but no longer evident.
Clear break in stone to right indicating addition of agricultural
building with blind wall to north and loft steps and door to south,
now incorporated in house. Later lean-to to rear. Village Farm
House of 3 storeys, scattered fenestration on east front, all 12 or
6-pane sashes in flush stone surround. C20 door to right of
centre. North gable end has blocked doorway, 3 scattered 3-light
casements with timber lintels, and one 2-light stone mullion at
basement level.
