The Old Royal Oak,
Hainault and Bankside

Unusual late C18/early C19 remodelling of earlier C17 buildings and incorporating long
mullion windows. Two and a half storeys, ashlar with band over ground floor, moulded
eaves cornice, modern tile roof to front. Modern brick chimneys on ashlar bases.
Three modern gabled dormers. 2:2:3 windows on 1st floor, with hollow chamfered
mullions and surrounds, mostly 3-light (2-light near doorway to Old Royal Oak).
Bankside Cottage and Hainault have angled bays on ground floor to right hand windows.
Mostly glazing bar casements. The Old Royal Oak has a moulded doorcase, Hainault a
raised surround, Bankside a plain edge beaded surround. Arched doorway with single
fanlight to left (through passage alley to rear of Bankside with access to The Granary
and The Silk Mill q.v.).
