Greenhouse. Built c1832 as a forcing wall, by Paxton and
Robertson and made into a greenhouse in 1848-50 by Paxton.
Sandstone ashlar, timber and glass. 331 feet long, 7 feet wide
and stepped up the hillside, divided into eleven units. Ashlar
wall to north without openings. Coped ashlar plinth to south
surmounted by a superstructure of timber and glass. Vertical
glazing bars of four bays to each unit. Decorative valance and
parapet. Five units either side of the taller projecting
entrance feature. This has a flight of stone steps up to a tall
round-arched entrance with traceried fanlight. The Gardens and
Park are included on the Gardens Register at Grade I. Sources:
