Shops and offices, former house. Late C16, C18 and early C19. 3 storey, timber
framed and plastered with hipped slate roof, wide eaves overhang. Front has
on 3rd floor, 3 square double hung sashes with small panes and moulded
surrounds. Second floor has central oriel window bay with double hung sashes
with margin glazing bars, hipped roof and coved soffit. Either side are double
hung sashes with small panes. Ground floor has at E end and wrapping around
corner a late C19 butcher's shop window with hood and corner entrance with cast
iron brackets of pierced anthemium design and scroll brackets. Centre has 2
big C20 shop windows with small panes. Early C19 doorcase with flat fluted
Doric pilasters supporting wide elegant flat hood and frieze panel. Pair of
lions' heads in oval panels over pilasters. Fanlight over original door with
one horizontal glazed panel over 4 moulded vertical panels. To the rear a 2
storey concrete plain tile, gabled weatherboarded block, a single storey peg
tile gable outbuilding and big slated rear lean-to. Interior reveals remains
of late C16 timber frame, C17 timber framed 2 storey block at rear with post
with moulded impost detail and good mid C18 painted panelled room on first
floor, with dentilled cornice and overdoor friezes.
