House and outbuilding. C17 with mid C18 kitchen wing, outbuilding and internal
fittings. Painted stone rubble and slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays, with lean-to
outhouse to left return. Windows have slate dripcourses over, and casements.
Central entrance with slate gabled canopy. Gable-end stacks. Rear has kitchen
wing, with attached outbuilding, including end barn; cross-axial stack to
house. Interior has partitions with fielded panels and dado rail, beams above
have dentilled cornices. One room has spice cupboard with fielded-panel door.
Stair has stick balusters and rectangular newels, timber arch at foot. Property
of the National Trust, the gift of Beatrix Potter.
