House, now gutted. 1825 and later. By Francis Webster. For Christopher
Wilson. Ashlar, the service wing of roughcast stone rubble. Main wing of
2 storeys and 3x5 bays; service wing to north of 4 bays; later billiard room
wing of 3x3 bays to north-west. East facade of main wing has semi-circular
central bay with 3 windows to each floor. Giant angle pilasters, 1st floor sill
band and top frieze, cornice and blocking course. Ground floor windows to
central bay have eared architraves, friezes and cornices; those to outer bays
are tripartite, with angle colonnettes, entablatures and pediments; central 1st
floor window is blind, in form of sash. South return has end bays breaking
forward with architraves under frieze, broken by recessed lintels. Windows to
end bays of ground floor as to central bay above; those between open onto short
flight of steps. Windows to end bays of 1st floor have panelled sills and
jambs; those between have sill band. West facade has end bays breaking forward,
with angle pilasters. Large porte cochere with paired antae, entablature and
blocking course; entrance with flanking lights, architrave and cornice. Some
remaining ashlar stacks with cornices. Service wing has plainer details, to
east, the end bay breaks forward under gable, to west 2 bays project by one bay,
with 2nd storey. Billiard room wing has angle pilasters, frieze, cornice and
blocking course. Ground floor windows to west facade have architraves, friezes
and cornices. South return has entrance with architrave and armorial bearing
above. North return is roughcast; plain windows, one retaining small-paned iron
fixed glazing with some remaining painted glass.
